Green Gables, a living history museum and community education center built in 1896, is situated over 1 acre of green space on the bluff along the Indian River Lagoon. The volunteers of Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc. are working to raise funds to rehabilitate and restore this landmark transforming this “Forgotten Enchantress” to her former grandeur. This 127-year-old historic home represents Melbourne’s “Bridge to the Past”. Visit Green Gables to learn about the history of the Wells Family, generous benefactors who played a key role in the development of early Melbourne. Their vision and generosity gifted the area with Wells Park, the first Auditorium, the first library, establishing the first high school, and many more projects in the community, all of which have been enjoyed by several generations. We invite you to come and visit Green Gables and learn more about the architecture, the family, and our plans for the future.
